US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin had a "friendly and professional telephone conversation" on Wednesday that lasted more than an hour and a half.
The Kremlin said the conversation focused on the Middle East, particularly Iran, and the war in Ukraine.
Regarding Iran, according to Moscow, the Russian president offered ideas on Tehran's nuclear program and expressed support for Trump's decision to extend the ceasefire.
However, the Russian president told his American counterpart that he foresees "extremely catastrophic consequences" if the United States and Israel again resort to military action in the Middle East.
For his part, according to the Kremlin, Trump believes that an agreement to resolve the conflict in Ukraine is close.
Putin also proposed a ceasefire in Ukraine for Victory Day, May 9, with Trump supporting the idea. A 1.5-day ceasefire was also in effect for Easter, April 12. However, he accused Ukraine of using “purely terrorist methods” in attacks on political targets.
Also of interest is the Kremlin's report on "the conduct of the government under Volodymyr Zelensky," which sees the two leaders expressing similar views on Kiev's stance, which they said is prolonging the conflict. Most recently, Putin strongly condemned the assassination attempt on Trump last Saturday.
