Uncertainty over US-Iran talks in Pakistan: JD Vance postpones trip, Tehran

Possible talks between the United States and Iran in Islamabad remain uncertain, with recent developments showing a lack of clarity from both sides.

US Vice President JD Vance, who was expected to travel to Pakistan, has postponed the trip and is staying in Washington to attend additional meetings at the White House, according to the New York Times.

Also, the president's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner have not yet left for Pakistan, although they were expected to be part of the American delegation.

On the other hand, Iran has not yet made a final decision on participating in the talks.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated that this is related to "contradictory messages, unstable behavior and unacceptable actions by the American side."

He also condemned reports of attacks on Iranian ships, calling them a clear violation of international law.

Earlier, Pakistan's Information Minister, Ataullah Tarar, stressed that Tehran's decision to participate before the end of the two-week ceasefire is "crucial".

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has signaled that he is not willing to extend the ceasefire if a deal is not reached. Asked in an interview with CNBC whether he would allow it to continue if progress is made in negotiations, he replied: "I don't want to do that."

However, there are also cautious signals from Tehran of openness to diplomacy. Iranian government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani stated that Iran is ready for negotiations if they are conducted on the basis of mutual respect and recognition.
