In the early hours of today a tragic event occurred in Gjakova. An 11-year-old girl lost her life as a result of the fire that engulfed the apartment in which she lived.

Authorities in Kosovo said the incident happened around 01:40.

Firefighters went to the scene while together with the police evacuated the residents of the house.

"In the apartment in question after extinguishing the fire was found the body of a female / Kosovar victim born in 2011 for which the medical team has ascertained her death. Relevant police units went to the scene and the State Prosecutor was notified with their recommendation, in which case 'Investigation of Death' and 'Fire' were initiated. "The lifeless body was sent to IML for autopsy", said the police, reports KosovaPress.
