The Economics Commission discussed and approved the bill passing the management of The Park of Butrint to a private foundation on Tuesday.
The adoption of the bill did not pass without debate even among the party itself. MP Erion Brace proposed that guarantees should be reflected in the bill and agreements that protected areas in and around the archaeological park should be prohibited from construction.
Under Brache's proposal, the bill tasked the Government with protecting and guaranteeing the intangible boundaries of the park, including those outside the A3 area, where the archaeological park lies.
This area, known as the Ramsar protection zone, has been changed with the recent changes in protected areas that the government undertook. But they are again in them, according to the categories, development is prohibited or limited, as a precautionary measure for the protection of the park.
Culture Minister Elva Margariti knocked down Brache's request, claiming they were not part of the agreement with the Albanian-American Development Foundation. The minister said the object of the agreement is only the A3 area, i.e. archaeological park where construction is categorically prohibited.
But construction is not excluded from other protected areas, such as A1, A2 and C1 and C2.

The Albanian government closed legal procedures in late April for the construction of a tourist resort in the Bay of Monastery in Saranda. The resort is the first to be built in the coastal area of Saranda-Butrint, one of the country's most coveted areas for tourist construction.
RReth 800 hectares of this coastal area until January this year were part of the Butrint National Park, but were removed with a government decision in the context of revising the natural boundaries of some national parks. The map of the Park of Butrint, orange-colored area of 800 hectares, former part of the park in the category "B", already removed in January 2022 by the government as part of the revision of the boundaries of protected areas.
The recently removed area of 800 hectares, in a part of which the "Resort Monastery" will be established, was included in the 2005 Area of Butrint Park and enjoyed protected status in category "B", where intensive construction developments were not allowed.
The "Resort Monastery" project to be implemented gained strategic investment status at the end of 2021 with a decision of the Stateinvestment Committee. investment value is forecast at 28m euros.
