Cristiano Ronaldo considers himself the greatest footballer of all time. The Portuguese star, 41, has spoken about his career, his rivalry with Lionel Messi and the recognition he says he deserves for the goals he continues to score at this age.

The interview was broadcast by CNN Portugal, where Ronaldo spoke with journalist and friend Edu Aguirre. According to international media reports, the conversation took place about a year ago.

"I'm the best of all time, period. The numbers speak for themselves. I don't know anyone better than me. History has already been written. I could end my career today and I wouldn't regret anything," declared the Portuguese striker.

During the interview, Ronaldo also spoke about the constant comparisons with Lionel Messi, the rivalry with which he has marked an era in world football.

According to the Portuguese, the two have served as a source of motivation for each other, comparing their rivalry to that between legendary Formula 1 drivers Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna.

"One always gave motivation to the other, just like Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna in Formula 1," Ronaldo said.

The Portuguese star also stressed that he does not feel appreciated enough for the number of goals he continues to score, despite his age.
