"There are plenty in the suburbs" - Where will houses under 60

The government has announced a new housing reform, mainly for young people and professionals. After the government meeting, Economy Minister Delina Ibrahimaj announced that 7,000 apartments will be made available, 4,000 soft loans will be provided, half of which will be zero-interest for apartments worth 60,000 euros. According to her, these will be covered by the National Housing Fund.

"New reform not only for the needy classes for young professionals. 7 thousand apartments available, where there will be 4 thousand soft loans 2 thousand with zero interest for apartments up to 60 thousand euros worth which will be given to young professionals and young couples. For large apartments, 3 thousand apartments with a fixed interest rate of 3% will be available. They will be covered by the National Housing Fund.

It is a fund collected by municipalities, the state budget for housing and other credit mechanisms such as the EIB which has a specific program for housing. We will provide a rental subsidy for 3 thousand apartments that are dedicated not only to the needy, but also to young families and professionals who have just finished school and decide to return to their place of residence and we will support them, guarantee them a safer start to life, because housing is the main thing for citizens. We have more than 80% of Albanians who live in their own homes. We will start the construction of several blocks of buildings", said Ibrahimaj.

Asked if this housing package is being done for electoral purposes, she replied:

"It will not enter into force in 2027. The legal package will be approved in early October. Calls will be opened during the current year. Since there is an administrative process for managing the calls, we will announce the winners in early 2027. In the SP program, we have focused on housing. Housing is an issue that deserves more focus, the expansion of this policy deserves special attention. This is not an electoral program, there are elections every two years. Every policy that we make, we should not necessarily link it to electoral programs," said Ibrahimaj.

Also asked in which area of Tirana there is a flat worth 60 thousand euros, the minister said that it is on the outskirts of the capital.

"There are apartments on the outskirts of Tirana, they are small apartments, they are not intended for large families. That's why I said this program is intended for professionals who have just finished their studies and want to live near their workplace. It is a process that happens in all countries of the world."
