A 46-year-old woman from Iran, arrested in flagrante delicto during her attempt to travel to France, sought help from justice with the argument that she was persecuted by the regime of her country because of her profession as a journalist.
Two months after being handcuffed, the Iranian Lejla Bagerza Dekavari insisted in the Court of Appeal that she left Iran after threats to her life not only because of her profession, but also because of her refusal to cover up.
In addition, the suspect was presented as a supporter of women who was forced to leave the homeland for a better life in Europe. But apart from the touching confession, the 46-year-old did not file any convincing evidence for the court. With a forged document and under a Czech identity, after completing the Tehran-Istanbul trip, Lejla tried to transit through Tirana, with France as her destination.
Suspected of forging documents, Lejla insisted that she and her parents are threatened by the regime. The woman's state-appointed defense lawyer insisted that the Iranian woman eventually managed to leave the regime behind.
The 46-year-old must face prison in Albania, a statement which was considered unfounded by the court. The Court of Appeal states that the suspect had planned to travel to the European Union with false documents and if the security measures are changed for her, there is a possibility of escaping from Albania as well./TopChannel
