North Macedonia, Italy, Spain and Cyprus ease the burden on consumers, reduce

North Macedonia is the latest country to intervene to curb rising fuel prices.

From September 15 to 28, the government reduced VAT on fuel from 18 to 10 percent, while excise duty relief also continues.

For diesel alone, the effect of the measures is estimated at around 7 denars per liter, avoiding further price increases for consumers. The final price is 99 dinars or 1.48 euros.

Italy has also extended until September 17 the reduction in excise duty on diesel, by about 17 cents per liter.

The measure aims to protect families and businesses from sharp price increases on international markets. Spain is also applying temporary tax cuts on gasoline and diesel.

Cyprus, meanwhile, has extended until November 30 the fiscal relief of 8.33 cents per liter for both types of fuel.

Supportive measures have also been taken in other countries, through excise duty reductions, refunds or direct subsidies.

The governments of these countries are trying to cover part of the cost of the energy crisis by reducing tax revenues, easing the burden on consumers.

The aim is that the increase in oil prices does not immediately translate into an increase in the cost of transportation, food, and other products.
