Former world number one in tennis and multiple Grand Slam champion Boris Becker has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for hiding 2.8ml euros worth of asset and loans to avoid paying debts.
The six-time Wimbledon champion denied he had broken UK bankruptcy laws after he was declared bankrupt in 2017, forcing creditors almost £50 million.
Becker, 54, was found guilty of four counts by a jury under the Bankruptcy Act. He was found not guilty of 20 other charges.
He sent almost 45,000 euros in payments from his business account to others. The case focused on Becker's bankruptcy in June 2017, as a result of an unpaid loan of more than £3m on his luxury property in Mallorca, Spain.
Earlier this month, after about two weeks of hearing evidence, lawyers found Becker guilty of property removal, two counts of failing to discover wealth and hiding debt.
They released him on 20 other charges, including nine counts of failing to hand over his tennis trophies and medals, including two from Wimbledon.
