Jurgen Klopp's adventure as Germany coach has gotten off to a rocky start. After a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands, Die Mannschaft were beaten 1-0 by Greece in Augsburg, leaving them winless after two matches in the Nations League.

The German team failed to convert possession and chances into goals, but consistency throughout the 90 minutes also seemed to be an issue. The team lost intensity as the game progressed against the Dutch, while against Greece, difficulties with final passing and finishing were particularly evident.

Complicating matters for Klopp are the absences of Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz, as well as the need to establish a hierarchy within a very large group of players. The coach has called up a total of 44 players, divided into two lists, for the first four matches.

Bastian Schweinsteiger does not spare criticism:

"Now we are just a mediocre team, we are no longer an elite team. We no longer have players who make the difference. I hope Klopp can build a team capable of playing football in the 'Klopp style'."

Bastian Schweinsteiger then came to the defense of coach Jurgen Klopp.

"Klopp is not a magician. It's a difficult job, but even footballers have to ask themselves a little: is that all? " Schweinsteiger said.

The big mitigating factor in Klopp's difficult start to life in charge of Germany is the kind of work he is looking to do with the German national team. Just look at his squad list; a full 44 players have been called up.

After the sensational failure in the 2026 World Cup, the Germans chose Klopp to be reborn and the coach has taken this path; a broad base, testing young players and trying to transmit his principles of play. A process that certainly needs time.
