The Trump administration did not oppose the UK-led initiative to impose new sanctions on Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

According to American officials and Western diplomats, cited by Axios, the White House's stance signals dissatisfaction with the policy of Benjamin Netanyahu's government in this territory.

London announced sanctions on individuals and entities involved in settlement construction, as well as a ban on imports from Israeli settlements. The move follows the Netanyahu government's decision to advance construction in the E1 area, a strategic territory that critics say would divide the West Bank and make it difficult to establish a future Palestinian state.

The British initiative was joined by 11 other Western countries, including Canada, France, Spain and Sweden.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio did not condemn the British decision, stating that Washington shares concerns about stability and rising tensions in the West Bank.

The White House also distanced itself from criticism by the US ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, clarifying that his statements against Britain were not coordinated with the administration, according to Axios.
