Russian President Vladimir Putin has fired five generals this week amid Moscow's difficulties in invading Ukraine.

The Russian newspaper "Pravda" confirms this news referring to a decree of the Ministry of Interior.

Among them seems to be General Alexander Dvornikov. According to Ukrainian intelligence, he is no longer leading Russian troops in Ukraine.

Putin himself decided to dismiss the so-called "Syrian butcher", whom he had called to lead the occupation of the country after the failure of the advance towards Kiev. Alexander Dvornikov has not appeared in public for several weeks.

The dismissal of five generals who have held senior positions in the army comes just weeks after two other generals were fired for poor performance in Ukraine.

The British intelligence service says General Serhiy Kisel was fired after failing to take control of Kharkiv.

Igor Osipov, on the other hand, resigned after Russia lost the ship 'Moskva' in the Black Sea in April.

At least 25 Russian generals and commanders have been killed in fighting in Ukraine.

Putin has also fired more than 100 members of the 'private army' who have refused to fight in Ukraine. Hundreds of people have also deserted from the army.

So far, the invasion of Ukraine has not gone according to Russia's plans. Western officials estimate more than 15,000 Russians have been killed, while Ukraine claims 30,000.

Today marks 100 days since the war in Ukraine, which began on February 24 with an unprovoked attack and no official declaration of war.
