Socialist Party MP Arbian Mazniku said in "Opinion" that Prime Minister Edi Rama has no intention of resigning despite the student or citizen revolt.

"He has no intention. He does not have a personal mandate, he exercises the mandate of the SP with 800 thousand votes. He has a specific objective for the integration of Albania into the EU and has agreements with Albanians," said Mazniku.

Asked whether these protests have an impact on the government, MP Mazniku parallels the situation in Albania with that in France, Italy, or Portugal where there are massive student uprisings.

"The majority needs to listen to the people, react, change policies while remaining loyal to the main agenda. Today we are in a situation where there are even bigger protests than these, in France, Portugal, in Spain, similar protests," Mazniku said.

Arbian Mazniku also commented on the violent clashes between police forces and young protesters. He stated that in the event of violence by citizens, the police have the right to use proportional force, while not denying the fact that there are cases of exceeding their powers and the need for verifications.

"Language is important. When it comes to the police reaction, they are students, when it comes to breaking into stores, they are protesters. Protesters have the right to protest and the police are there to protect their rights. In the case of the use of violence by protesters, the police have an obligation to use proportional violence, as is happening in European cities. If there is excess, the respective measures must be followed and taken. The reaction of the Albanian police is many times more restrained than in the protests in Italy, France. The general principle, the police is trying to maintain proportionality ," said Mazniku.
