Prime Minister Edi Rama has invited civil society organizations to take the initiative for dialogue between the government and the protesters, guaranteeing that he is ready to sit down for talks at any time, in any place and without conditions. But he has accompanied the invitation with a direct request: that the organizations distance themselves from violence during protests, arson against institutions and abuse of minors.
The reaction comes after over 20 civil society organizations called on political representatives and state leaders to avoid inflammatory rhetoric, create space for dialogue, and protect the right to peaceful protest, the life and dignity of every person.
"Respect the right to peaceful protest. Protect the life and dignity of every person. No life should be put at risk," reads the text signed by organizations including Civil Rights Defenders Albania, SCiDEV, AWEN Network, BIRN Albania, Citizens.al, Amfora Center, and the Albanian Journalists' Union.
Rama has published part of their statement on Facebook, asking them to set an example of dialogue themselves. At the same time, he has defended the police's stance, arguing that peaceful protesters are endangered by violent individuals and not by law enforcement.
The full post of Prime Minister Edi Rama:
"You are the first to set an example of dialogue and as far as the government is concerned, we will be there."
And in the meantime, clearly distance yourself from violence, stones, arson of institutions, and abuse of minors, so that you can also help peaceful protesters exercise their right, which is not endangered by the police, but by the perpetrators who lead the pseudo-student masquerade.
And yes, let's all respect the right to peaceful protest - from the perpetrators to the leaders of the protest!
Let's all protect the life and dignity of every person - from violence and manipulation!
No life should be put at risk and no game should be played with the life of the country.
"Bujrum, DIALOGUE. Wherever you want. Whenever you want. Without conditions."
