The first suspected case of monkey leprosy has appeared in Greece, more specifically in the city of Thessaloniki.

Greek media report that it is a 61-year-old man of Moroccan origin, who is being treated at Papageorgiou Hospital in Thessaloniki.

The 61-year-old Moroccan has been placed in strict isolation, while he has immediately undergone all the necessary examinations to determine if he is really ill. The results are expected tomorrow, from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where they were sent.

According to the information, the Moroccan patient came alone to the hospital emergency room and is being treated in good condition with limited symptoms of the disease. The 61-year-old Moroccan has reportedly arrived in Thessaloniki on a flight from Istanbul.
