Approaching Albania, the first case of monkey pox is registered in Montenegro

The first case of monkey pox has been registered in Montenegro, the Institute for Public Health (IJZ) announces, which states that the patient is a Montenegrin citizen and is in good general condition.

According to Vijesti, the laboratory of the Department of Molecular Diagnostics of IJZ, in cooperation with the Institute of Virology, discovered the "Torlak" vaccines and serums and confirmed the first case of monkey pox. Montenegro has joined the list of 79 countries where this disease has been registered.

IJZ announced that all necessary measures have been taken for the patient and his contacts, in order to prevent and curb the spread of the infectious disease. All competent institutions have been notified in accordance with national and international protocols.

IJZ appeals to citizens to adhere to hygienic-epidemiological preventive measures and to respect the recommendations of health institutions.

Monkeypox usually starts with fever, muscle aches, fatigue and headache, sore throat and cough. Also, there may be enlargement of the lymph nodes (lymphadenopathy). In a period of one to three days (sometimes longer) after the onset of fever, the patient develops measles, which often begins on the face (in 95 percent of cases). The rash goes through stages of macules, papules, vesicles, pustules and crusts that eventually fall off. The illness usually lasts from two to four weeks.
