The European Union's Transport Commissioner, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, has warned of significant disruptions to air travel as a result of the war in Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
"The situation is not good," he told the Greek news channel "Skai."
"Currently, the necessary fuel is available and more than 80% of airports have not reported shortages," he said.
However, prices have doubled, which has led to the suspension of many airline flights, which were not economically viable even before the war.
He added that if the blockade continues and a solution is not found, fuel shortages could arise after June.
"A real shortage in Europe is not expected at the moment," Tzitzikostas stressed, referring to existing emergency reserves.
EU member states have been asked to report their reserves daily – in order to keep an overall picture of available reserves.
"If shortages arise after June, these reserves can be released in a targeted manner," he added.
