The Prime Minister of Montenegro, Dritan Abazovic, has apologized for his statement on the 27th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica.

During his speech, Abazovic said that "genocide was not committed against Bosniaks, but against people" and that "it was not committed by armies, but by politicians". But this statement brought harsh reactions, which also brought a clarification from Abazovic.

"I apologize to the mothers of Srebrenica for the vaguely expressed opinion. It is known that every work depends on its purpose. My goal is peace. The genocide committed against Bosniaks in Srebrenica should not be repeated against anyone," he wrote in Telegram.

Serbian forces killed over 8,000 Muslim men and boys during the 1990s war.

The massacre has been described as the worst atrocity in Europe since the end of the Second World War, while the International Court of The Hague has recognized it as genocide.
