The war in Ukraine

In an exclusive interview with the British Times, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov claimed that the Ukrainian army is now equipped with modern Western weapons and is ready to retake the southern regions from the Russians.

Ukraine is amassing a force of one million soldiers equipped with Western weapons to retake its southern territory from Russia, the country's defense minister has revealed to The Times.

In his first interview with a British newspaper since the start of the occupation, Reznikov said President Zelensky had ordered Ukraine's military to retake occupied coastal areas vital to the country's economy.

According to the Ukrainian defense minister, in addition to artillery, the Ukrainians have numerous missile launch systems and high-tech unmanned aerial vehicles.

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Irina Verechuk today called on civilians in the southern Russian-controlled Kherson region to leave immediately as Ukrainian armed forces prepare a counteroffensive.

Ukraine lost control of most of the Kherson region near the Black Sea in the first weeks after Russia invaded on February 24.
