Historical/ Iran allows women in the stadium for the first time in 40 years

A historic change in Iranian football took place in this week's championship match between Esteghal and Mes Kerman where this challenge was followed by 500 women who were present in the stadium.

It was the first time in more than 40 years that a football match in Iran was allowed to be played in a stadium with women in attendance following a law banning their presence at sporting events. This event is considered a very big step by the Iranian government in the fight for gender equality.
