British Prime Minister Liz Truss resigned on Thursday, due to the failure of her economic program, which caused strong reactions in the stock markets and divisions within the Conservative Party. Her resignation came just six weeks after taking office.
Speaking outside the Prime Minister's Office in London, Ms Truss admitted she was unable to keep the promises she made during the campaign to take over the leadership of the Conservative Party and that she had lost the confidence of her party.
Considering the situation we are in, I could not implement the plans on which I based the mandate given by the Conservative Party. For this reason, I informed King Charles that I am resigning from the post of Conservative Party leader," she said.
Mrs Truss became the shortest-serving Prime Minister in British history. George Canning previously held the record of 119 days as prime minister in 1827, when he died in office
