"We don't want to be fooled again" - Iran doubts Trump's

Iranian officials have expressed deep distrust of the US administration's recent efforts to launch peace negotiations, describing them as another tactical maneuver by President Donald Trump.

According to sources directly involved in the discussions, Tehran has communicated to the intermediary countries that it has been "fooled twice" during previous rounds and is not willing to repeat the same mistake.

The United States is pushing for a face-to-face meeting that could take place in Islamabad, but previous experience has heightened Iran's suspicions.

In both recent instances of negotiations, sources say, diplomatic efforts have been accompanied by surprise military strikes. One such episode occurred in June, when Israel, with US support, struck Iran just days before a planned round of talks.

Another case was recorded three weeks ago, when a preliminary agreement in Geneva to continue dialogue was followed by new attacks just two days later.

These developments have reinforced the perception in Tehran that the offer of dialogue could be used as cover for military operations.
