US President Donald Trump, during a press conference at the White House, commented on the situation in the Middle East and the US role in the conflict with Iran.
During his speech, he praised the United Arab Emirates as “very good” and Qatar as “great.” When asked how hopeful he was that a peace deal with Iran would work, Trump was blunt: “This war is won.”
In another statement, Trump said the Iranian regime has agreed that the country will never have nuclear weapons, a claim he has made before during this conflict.
The US president was also asked about his negotiating teams in Iran: "We killed all their leadership, and then they came together to elect new leaders and we killed them all. Now we have a new group... let's see how they turn out."
Trump stressed that the joint US-Israeli attacks have led to “regime change,” but he warned: “I don’t trust anyone.”
According to him, this shows that "we are dealing with the right people."
Trump stressed that Iran has given the US a "gift" of considerable value, related to issues of oil, gas and the Strait of Hormuz.
"They gave us a very big gift, of extraordinary value, but I'm not going to say what it is," Trump said during a statement at the White House.
He stressed that this action by Iran is a positive signal for negotiations between the parties.
"This showed me that we are dealing with the right people," the US president added.
Trump clarified that the "gift" is not related to the nuclear program, but to the energy sector, hinting that it could be related to the flow of oil and gas through the Strait of Hormuz.
Asked if this would mean US control over this strategic route, he replied: "We will have control over everything we want."
The US president also added that he believes the war could end soon.
"I think we will end this war," he declared.
Trump also repeated previous claims that Iran no longer has a fleet, leaders or radar, calling the US operation a "tremendous success".
