The Italian daily "La Repubblica" has been sold by Exor, the holding company of the Agnelli-Elkann family, to the Greek media group Antenna, owned by entrepreneur Theo Kyriakou.
The agreement includes not only the newspaper, but the entire GEDI group, including national media and a wide network of platforms, such as Radio Deejay, Radio Capital and m2o, as well as HuffPost Italia, National Geographic Italia, Limes magazine and advertising concessionaire Manzoni.
The value of the deal is estimated at around 100 million euros, according to market sources.
Theo Kyriakou is considered close to US President Donald Trump and also has business ties to Mohammed Bin Salman, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia.
At the same time, the GEDI group has also confirmed the sale of another important Italian newspaper, "La Stampa", which is expected to be transferred to the Italian group SAE, owner of several regional media outlets.
Journalists at both media outlets have expressed concerns about editorial independence and the possibility of staff cuts, while the new owners have given guarantees for maintaining autonomy and employment stability.
