Details have been revealed about the suspected perpetrator of the shooting incident during the journalists' dinner at the Hilton Washington hotel, where US President Donald Trump was also present.

According to US media reports, the suspect was seen running towards the event hall before being stopped by security forces. He is believed to be a 31-year-old from Torrance California, in the southwestern suburbs of Los Angeles, California.

Authorities in Washington, DC have announced that the suspect is currently at a local hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment, while remaining under police supervision.

Meanwhile, US Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that charges are expected to be filed against him "very soon."

Jeffery W. Carroll, the interim chief of the Metropolitan Police Department, says the suspect was carrying several weapons.

"He was armed with a shotgun, a pistol and several knives," he says.

Meanwhile, the injured Secret Service agent was taken to a local hospital and is in good condition.
