Balance/ Three dead and three injured from the attack in Denmark

A shooting at a shopping mall in Copenhagen has left three people dead, local authorities said on Sunday. Several others were injured, while three people were hospitalized in critical condition.

The event happened yesterday inside Field's, a shopping center in the Danish capital. Social media footage showed people running through the mall and heavily armed law enforcement officers at the scene.

At a press conference early Monday morning, Copenhagen police chief Soren Thomassen said the victims were "a man in his 40s and two young people".

A young Danish man has been arrested, according to Thomassen, and is currently the only suspect.

The Danish police announced that they did not rule out the possibility that it could be an "act of terrorism".

"We are convinced that the arrested 22-year-old suspect was the one who shot, he was carrying a rifle and ammunition," he said.

"Investigators believe that the suspect was not cooperating with others, but until they are absolutely sure they will not rule out any leads."

Police arrested the suspect thirteen minutes after receiving the first 911 call about the shooting, Thomassen said.

Eyewitness Joachim Olsen, a former Danish politician and athlete, told CNN he was on his way to a gym inside Field's when he saw large groups of people exiting the mall.

"It was like school shootings in the US, people walking out with their hands over their heads," Olsen said.

A spokesman for Rigshospitalet, Denmark's largest hospital, told CNN that the hospital had called in extra staff to deal with the emergency.

Danish police said on Sunday they had evacuated thousands of people from the Royal Arena site near the shopping centre. The arena was scheduled to hold a Harry Styles concert, but it was canceled after the shooting.

In a statement on Sunday night, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen expressed her condolences to the injured, their relatives and the victims, as well as "all Danes who were close to these terrible events".

Gun violence is relatively rare in Denmark. The last major shooting incident in Copenhagen was in 2015, when a gunman attacked a free speech forum featuring controversial cartoonist Lars Vilks, killing one person and wounding three others.
