An unidentified aircraft has alerted 6 NATO countries, after flying in the airspace without notifying them.
The mysterious plane was spotted by the Hungarian and Romanian Air Forces and then flew through Poland, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Lithuania.
Two USAF F-16s, two Romanian F-16s and two Hungarian Grips were sent to capture the plane as it did not respond to radio communications, writes The Sun. The plane eventually landed in Debrecen, Hungary for refueling and took off again.
He was found at a small local airport in Bulgaria known as Targovishte Airport. When authorities finally arrived on the plane, the pilot was nowhere to be seen. The engine of the plane was reportedly still warm when officers arrived at the scene. Police have inspected the plane as part of their investigation. Prosecutors in the Bulgarian city of Targovishte have launched an investigation into what happened, according to Euractiv media.
Bulgarian Defense Ministry official Dragomir Zakov insisted the mysterious plane had not been a threat to civilians.
"The plane was at no time a threat to civilian or military infrastructure in Bulgaria. It flew at low altitudes, which made it difficult to intercept fighter jets, but it was monitored all the time. "The Ministry of Defense is taking the necessary actions to clarify the circumstances," said the official of the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense.
