The Democratic Party has denounced what it considers a violation of the right to protection of protesters arrested during the protests of recent days.
In a statement to the media, DP spokesperson Floriana Garo said that the lawyers of the detained protesters have announced that the Deputy President of the Tirana Court, Migena Laska, has ordered that the list of arrested persons, who will appear in court the next day for the determination of security measures, not be published and not made available to lawyers.
Garo called this an unprecedented decision in the history of justice, claiming that it aims to prevent the lawyers chosen by the detainees and assign them other defenders.
"The lawyers of the protesters detained by the Police during the student revolt announce that the Deputy President of the Court of Tirana, Migena Laska, has ordered not to publish, which means not to give to the lawyers, the list of persons arrested in the protest who will appear in court tomorrow for security measures. This is the most unprecedented decision in the history of justice. This is a serious violation of the right to effective protection.
Apparently, she has received a political order to thus exclude the lawyers chosen by the detainees and appoint them patronizing lawyers! The Democratic Party condemns with the greatest force this serious violation of the European Convention on Human Rights, the Constitution and the laws of the country!"
