When using a bank card to withdraw money at an ATM or make purchases at a POS, citizens often face additional currency exchange fees, which they only notice after they have been deducted from their account. But it seems that this problem has come to an end.

The Bank of Albania has established new rules that protect citizens' pockets.

From today, banks and shops will be obliged to clearly tell you, before you make a transaction, how much the currency exchange will cost. You will see on the screen of the ATM or POS machine where you are making the payment what the official exchange rate is and what additional fees are being applied. The bank will even send you an electronic notification on your phone for each transaction.

The same convenience will apply when sending money or making online transfers from your computer or phone. Before you confirm the money transfer, the system will give you a full receipt of the exchange fee and the total amount that will go to the recipient, without fear of money being secretly kept from you.

These changes aim to put an end to abuses and make everyday card and cash transactions as secure and transparent as possible for every citizen.
