The Muslim community of Albania has reacted with strong criticism after the circulation of the guideline on hormonal therapy for minors at the QSUT.
In a public statement, the Muslim Community of Albania states that it is following with deep concern the public debate created after the publication of the Ministry of Health's guidance in its entirety, and in particular the part that states, among other things: "Therapy can begin from the age of 16, while in special cases, it can also be considered from the age of 14."
"Just as we have publicly stood against the so-called gender equality law, we remain coherent in our stance against its other derivatives, such as this specific case."
Such guidelines constitute an extremely delicate issue, which directly affects the physical, emotional and psychological development, especially of our children and adolescents. For this reason, every institutional step in this direction must be treated with utmost care, high responsibility and sensitivity to the values of Albanian society.
The Muslim Community of Albania expresses its opposition to any approach that paves the way for hormonal interventions at such ages.
We believe that minors should not be placed in the face of processes with profound and long-term consequences for their lives, at a time when their personality and identity are still being formed.
Children need protection, guidance, family support, and responsible professional care.
Our society should not normalize practices that create ambiguity and social tension in relation to human nature, the family, and the education of younger generations.
The KMSH calls on state institutions, health professionals, parents, and all social actors to not address such issues hastily or under the influence of temporary ideological trends, but with prudence, broad dialogue, and national responsibility.
"We stand by the concerns of many parents and believers, who seek the preservation of family values, the protection of children, and respect for the moral and cultural sensitivity of our society ," the response states.
