A 38-year-old Albanian, declared internationally wanted for the attempted murder of two policemen in 2022, has been arrested in Belgium and is expected to be extradited to our country.

It is about the citizen Dieg Haxhiraj from Vlora, who is accused of having, in cooperation with another citizen, fired a firearm at two citizens (police officers who were off duty at the time of the incident). At that time, Haxhiraj stated that he did not know that those who were following him were policemen, but he suspected that they could be people seeking revenge.

In 2013, he was caught together with another person with 600 kilograms of cannabis.

Haxhiraj is also known by the names Teki Haxhiraj alias Diego Hanaj.

Successive operations with counterparts, for the location, capture and extradition of citizens announced as international wanted.

As a result of the information provided by the information intelligence of the State Police and their exchange in real time, with the Belgian counterparts, the joint police operation, coded "Capital", has been finalized.

After the exchange of information, a 38-year-old Albanian man announced as wanted internationally by Interpol Tirana was caught in Brussels, by FAST Belgium, and was arrested with the intention of extradition to Albania.

The 38-year-old is accused that in 2022, in cooperation with another citizen, he tried to kill 2 citizens (police officers, off duty) with firearms.

At the time of the arrest by the Belgian Police, this citizen was presented with a different identity.

As a result of the information provided by the information intelligence of the Albanian Police and the exchange of this information in a quick time by Interpol Tirana and FAST Albania, with the Belgian counterparts, about the location of an Albanian citizen declared internationally wanted, who was hiding in Belgium, the police operation coded "Capital" has been finalized. During this operation, based on the information exchanged, FAST Belgium caught in the city of Belgium and arrested with the intention of extraditing to Albania, the Albanian citizen declared internationally wanted:

DH alias TH, 38 years old, resident of Vlora. At the time of the arrest by the Belgian Police, this citizen was presented with a different identity. During the physical check, the Police services found a cold weapon (knife) on him.

This citizen was declared an international wanted by Interpol Tirana, after the Vlora Judicial District Court, with the decision dated 01.10.2022, assigned the security measure "Arrest in prison", for the criminal offenses "Murder in qualifying circumstances", remaining in attempts, carried out in cooperation, and "Unauthorized production and possession of weapons, combat arms and ammunition".

The 38-year-old is accused of, in cooperation with another citizen, shooting at two citizens (police officers who were off duty at the time of the incident).

Interpol Tirana, in cooperation with Interpol Brussels, is following the procedures for the extradition of this citizen to Albania.

The State Police thanks FAST Belgium for the cooperation in the rapid exchange of information and for the professionalism shown during this joint operation, which was finalized with the capture of an internationally wanted citizen.
