Albanian businessman Ermal Beqiri, wanted by Albanian justice in the context of investigations into public tenders, will continue to remain in prison in France.
The French newspaper Le Courrier Picard reports that the Court of Appeal in Amiens rejected this Friday, October 23, his request for release from detention.
According to journalist Gautier Lecardonnel, Beqiri appeared before the court again, three days after the Investigation Chamber had considered his request for release. The judges decided to reject it, leaving the Albanian businessman behind bars until a decision is made on his possible extradition to Albania.
Also this Friday, the Investigation Chamber in Amiens also examined the basis of the extradition request submitted by the Albanian authorities.
Beqiri, owner of the castle of Berneuil-en-Bray in the French department of Oise, was arrested at the end of July in Méaulte, near Albert, after flying his plane over the Penly nuclear power plant, in Seine-Maritime.
He is wanted by Albanian justice in connection with an investigation into public contracts, while the extradition procedure continues before French judicial authorities.
