The Swiss government has just brought the Social Security Agreement between Albania and Switzerland to the parliament for approval.
The news was given by Prime Minister Edi Rama with a note on Facebook.
Describing it as good news, the head of the government said that "this agreement between Albania and Switzerland mainly aims at coordination for old-age pensions, disability status, survivors, guarantees equal treatment of the insured, disciplines the flow of contributions abroad and avoids cases of double taxation or abuses".
"The approval of the agreement in the parliaments of the two countries will concretize the several years of work of the government of the Republic of Albania with the competent Swiss institutions", said Rama.
The agreement enables citizens to receive pensions even when they live abroad, while the two governments will have a better cooperation in preventing frauds and abuses with social security. It also facilitates the mobility of Swiss and Albanian citizens and protects them from double social security contributions.
