US Senator Gary Peters has reacted to the tense situation in Albania, calling on authorities to avoid the use of force against peaceful protesters and for all parties to work to prevent further escalation of violence.

Through a post on the social network X, Peters expresses that he is deeply concerned about the recent developments in the country, while emphasizing that Albanians deserve a government that respects fundamental rights and the rule of law.

"I am deeply concerned about the escalating situation in Albania. Local authorities should refrain from aggression against peaceful protesters, while all those on the ground should work to reduce tensions and prevent further violence," the US senator wrote.

In his post, Peters also emphasizes that Michigan has a large and active Albanian-American community, for whom developments in Albania are a personal matter.

"The Albanian people deserve a government that respects their fundamental rights and upholds the rule of law. For this reason, I will continue to advocate for peace and justice for all Albanians," he writes.

Gary Peters is a U.S. Senator representing the state of Michigan in the U.S. Senate since 2015. He serves as a member of the Democratic Party and has held important roles on Senate committees, including those on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.
