Rama: Albania first in the Balkans for environmental performance

Prime Minister Edi Rama has publicly reacted to recent environmental criticism, refuting the claims through figures and rankings from international organizations.

Through a post on social media, the head of government emphasized that, despite the "noise and accusations" about damage to nature, official indicators prove the opposite.

According to the Global Environmental Performance Index indicators, Albania is ranked first in the Western Balkans and 46th in the world among 177 countries analyzed, marking the highest progress in the region over the last decade.

In particular, regarding climate change mitigation, Albania ranks 21st globally.

"For weeks, the impression was created that Albania had become the enemy of its own nature. Many things were said, even more were written. Millions of images, accusations and judgments and, shallow convictions were shared, and for a moment it seemed that the noise triumphed over reality, but reality speaks."

The most prestigious global index for environmental performance has just ranked Albania first in the Western Balkans, 46th out of 177 countries in the world, with the highest progress in the region over the last 10 years.

"While for climate change mitigation, Albania ranks 21st in the world and these are not the assessments we have made to ourselves, far from it! But they are the decisions of international and academic institutions, which for a quarter of a century have been measuring with global consensus, with the same methodology, the environmental performance of countries around the world," said Rama.
