On the eve of the feast of Our Lady of Shkodra, Archbishop Giovanni Peragine spoke for the first time about the protest that has been taking place for 5 days in a row.

According to the cleric, the government must make any difficult decisions that citizens demand, given that they have been protesting for 4 months in a row.

"The protests of these days undoubtedly demonstrate a deep social dissatisfaction that cannot be ignored. For four months, a significant number of citizens have peacefully protested against a system that favors some and penalizes many others, but their voices have not been heard and have not found the appropriate responses. This does not justify violence, which must be condemned clearly and without reservation, but highlights the responsibility of the authorities to listen to citizens, to open the way to dialogue and to address the causes of dissatisfaction with determination. Only through justice, equality and sincere dialogue can a more just society be built, where no one feels excluded and where the common good prevails over any personal interest. The responsibility of the authorities is not measured by declarations, but by concrete decisions. No private interest can be placed above the good of the country and no power can replace the obligation to respond to citizens. When trust in institutions is shaken and social peace "It is the duty of those who govern to assume their responsibilities and act without delay, courageously taking difficult decisions if the good of our country requires it. Albania does not deserve to experience the grave wounds of its past again ," Archbishop Peragine declared.

Archbishop Peragine also gave a message about the city of Shkodra, saying that the city is not only the center, but also the suburbs.

"The city is a common good, therefore it belongs to everyone. The city of Shkodra does not belong only to its institutions. It does not belong only to those who hold public responsibilities. It does not belong only to those who own wealth. Shkodra does not belong only to those who live in the city center. Shkodra belongs to all its citizens and should not be the property of anyone. Shkodra belongs to everyone and everyone should feel responsible for it.

We must also emphasize that a city is not built only at the tables of public offices, but is built every day in families, in schools, in workplaces, in associations, in religious communities and in civil society organizations. A city is built through the way we accept each other, how we respect common spaces and how we educate our children. A city is also built through small gestures of honesty, attention and solidarity. No one should pass on their responsibilities to others , "said the Archbishop of Shkodra.
