Democrat MP Ferdinand Xhaferri summoned today the Minister of Defense, Niko Peleshi, regarding the privatization of the properties of the Albanian Armed Forces.

Xhaferri requested information on the administration of properties in 2014, starting from the status of the former location of the air base in Kuçova to the lease of the naval base in Saranda.

"What is the property status of the former location of the air base in Kuçova, Berat? Does the property in Shengjin Lezha continue to be in the settlement plan? Has the procedure for leasing the naval base in Saranda been followed? Did the Ministry of Defense have legal violations in property administration in 2014 and what were the responsibilities of the persons who violated the law? I requested this interpellation with Niko Peleshi to provide explanations and information. We have no state but we have a renaissance squad that has attacked air and naval bases. In Shengjin, the construction of a 4-storey property is allowed. Have allowed the recognition of the property and the construction of the building. Regarding the sourcing base in Saranda, in July 2020 it was awarded for strategic investment at a price of 1 euro.

Minister Peleshi called them speculations, saying that the Armed Forces inherit assets of an army before 1990. Regarding the issue of giving properties for use to investors, Peleshi said that it is not a sin, as he denied having authorized the privatization of any property.

"Today we are proud to have this base. We are making it a reality now. We do not attribute too many political adjectives to these developments because they relate to our national security. You said lack of transparency but you did not say why. The whole interpellation is speculative. You have no right to say that there is no transparency. The Armed Forces inherit assets of an army before 1990. The reality has changed but it is not easy to change with army properties. Today we are talking about 1372 properties on behalf of the FA. The issue of giving properties for use to investors is not a sin but a task assigned to us by law. I have not given any property for rent, I have not given authorization for the privacy of any property ", declared Peleshi.
