The return of the accusations and the questioning of the former Minister of Defense Fatmir Mediu for the tragedy of Gërdec, just a short time after Altin Dumani was elected as the head of SPAK, has aroused many discussions and uncertainty in the Albanian political scene.
The analyst, Nikoll Lesi, stated that with Duman at the head of SPAK, during this year we may have high-level arrests of politicians who have dominated the Albanian political scene for the past 30 years. Invited to Report TV, Lesi said that Mediu would be a "small fish" compared to the arrests expected to be made.
"I can say that Arben Kraja for me is a personality who laid the foundations of SPAK, while the contours and walls will be realized by Dumani. As we have seen, Duman, as far as I have heard, is a correct, uncorrupted person and I believe that this year will be the year of handcuffs up to high levels. There will be punishments and penalties for most of the politicians of these 30 years. Mediu will be a small fish compared to those who I think will be beyond Mediu" - said the analyst.
Lesi added that the strategic interests that the USA has towards Albania require that there be a non-corrupt political class at the head of the country and as a result, it is expected that there will be punishments of high-level politicians.
"I believe that this year, we will have punishments above the levels we have talked about so far. This is a reform that is initiated by the Americans. They have strategic interests in Albania, they want a country without a corrupt political class as it is currently in Albania. But it takes a period of 2 or 3 years for a cleaning to take place. In my opinion, if one of the three who have dominated politics, "Meta-Berisha-Rama", flees to the country, then the chain breaks." he said
This opinion of Lesi was also supported by the analyst, Lorenc Vangjeli, who said that Duman's image as an uncorrupted prosecutor has aroused a lot of fear among high-ranking politicians in Tirana. He said that it is not known where the limit of SPAK may be with the investigations and arrests that may occur in the future, considering that there has been high impunity for years in Albania.
"I think there will be no limit. The fact that we will have high impunity over the years may return after the investigations, but it is not known where the limit will be. It is important for justice to be the balancer of the other two powers, which until now have not been in balance. I also agree with Lesi with the portrayal he made of the head of SPAK.
Dumani is a type of prosecutor who, if he were to appear in violation himself, would handcuff himself. This is the reason why there is fear in Tirana. We feel fear and trembling precisely because it is not known how far SPAK's work will go with Duman in charge. I can tell you that no one is exempt. This is the essence of the fear we are feeling in Tirana" - said Vangjeli.
