In Albania, American Ambassador Yuri Kim said today that the opponents of the Justice reform are doubling their efforts to prevent it and the results achieved. Ambassador Kim made these comments at the 30th anniversary ceremony of the Constitutional Court.

Her speech seemed to be addressed mostly to political people, when she said that the time of phone calls, gifts and threats is over.

"You enjoyed your privileges, you enjoyed your immunity, you filled your pockets, you filled the pockets of your children, your friends! Stop, it's over! Your time is up!", declared Ambassador Kim.

The American ambassador also had a call to judges and prosecutors.

"You answered enough of those calls. You accepted enough gifts. You were scared enough by those threats. Let the Albanians breathe. Let them be free," stressed Mrs. Kim.

The President of the Constitutional Court, Vitore Tusha, stated that even this institution has not escaped political pressure.

"Given that the decisions of this Court have a direct impact on the political decision-making of the bodies of power as well as on the determination of how they should not act in relation to each other, in not a few cases great political and social tensions are moved to the Constitutional Court, not infrequently public rhetoric has tried to involve the Court in political debates, under the guise of legal discourses, to prejudice the decision-making, or to interfere in its independence", said Mrs. Tusha, adding that however, "by transforming the political debate into constitutional justice, the Court has contributed to mitigating institutional clashes or impasses".

Even the ambassador of the European Union, Christiane Hohmann, taught the importance of the Reform in Justice and the newly created institutions, considering the reform "one of the main achievements that enabled Albania to start membership talks".

President Bajram Begaj cited the latest report of the European Commission for Albania, which "assessed the progress in the new institutions of justice, but also pointed out the problems that have affected the efficiency of the judicial system". According to the head of state, "independence and impartiality require appropriate financial support and budgetary autonomy, to enable full functionality, self-regulating ability and not to allow any infringement, by any branch of power".

The Constitutional Court was the first institution to feel the strong consequences of the revaluation process. For a long time it could not exercise its functions, as the vast majority of its members were left out of the system or resigned. Currently, the Constitutional Court has 8 of the 9 members who make up its body of judges./VOA
