"We are all Erjon Vishkulli" is the message that young people conveyed through their T-shirts during today's protest in front of the Prime Minister's Office in Tirana, in solidarity with the 28-year-old who was seriously injured in the eye by a rubber bullet during the demonstration the day before.
"We stand in solidarity with Erjon Vishkulli, who was shot in the eye with a rubber bullet. Erjon has been sent by family and friends to Italy for more specialized treatment," the protesters said.
They emphasized that the injury of the 28-year-old is another reason to continue the protest, while expressing concern about the consequences that the use of force against demonstrators could bring.
"Erjoni is the hero of the protest today. He sacrificed himself for the protest. This government can take our lives, not just our eyes," the young people declared.
The 28-year-old's injury has caused numerous reactions, especially after Prime Minister Edi Rama's statement that he was committed to covering the costs of his treatment abroad.
However, the young man's sister has publicly stated that his deportation to Italy was facilitated by family, friends and supporters, and not by the state. She has also asked that her brother's case not be used for political purposes.
Meanwhile, the student protest continues in front of the Prime Minister's Office, where participants demand the resignation of Edi Rama and oppose the new legal measures announced by the government for violent protests.
