The eye injury suffered by 28-year-old Erion Vishkulli during Saturday's protest in Tirana has prompted a reaction from Prime Minister Edi Rama, who declares that he has personally taken care of his treatment in Italy and transport by medical plane.

Rama expresses his condolences for the young man, but at the same time accuses those behind the violence in the protests of using the injury to incite further clashes. "You are the darkness that blinded that boy," the prime minister wrote in a post on X, describing violent protests as dangerous even for the participants themselves.

 Rama's full reaction:

"Participating in violent protests is undoubtedly dangerous both for the perpetrators of violence and those close to them, especially since it is now known throughout the world that behind these protests lies the hand of a mad maniac, with a history rich in arson and bloodshed."

I feel very sorry whenever someone is physically hurt, even a violent protester, but how can any potential injury be avoided if violence dictates the nature of a protest?!

This is a rhetorical question and the injury of the boy from Elbasan should be an alarm bell for everyone, but above all for the instigators of violence who spread propaganda from corrupt television screens and their social mirrors or, even worse, who pay to use individuals of all kinds as cannon fodder, from criminals to ignorant young people, and even minors.

Since I personally took care last night of ensuring the boy's treatment in the best hospital in Italy, as well as his transport on a medical plane, I say to all those who are savagely misusing his injured eye to further incite violence:

You are the darkness that blinded that boy!

You are the fingers and nails of the cursed hand that has haunted Albania since 1912, closing its eyes every time this country sees light!

But this time you are lost, because the light of Albania today is much greater than the darkness and you are increasingly fewer, so you are resorting to violence, burning and destruction with the inexhaustible hatred of that hand, but reminding Albanians better than ever who you are. And Albanians will not forgive you. Wait and see!

The 28-year-old, who was injured in his left eye on Skanderbeg Square, underwent surgery at the Trauma Hospital and is expected to be flown to Rome for a second operation. Doctors have announced that his condition is somewhat more stable, but it is not yet known whether he has lost his sight.
