Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has been admitted to the Military Hospital in Belgrade, media in Belgrade report.
Vučić had previously fallen "sick" during a visit to the United States. He was checked by doctors and after the check-up decided to return to Serbia, according to Serbian public broadcaster RTS.
During his stay in the US, Vučić met with former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
He had been warned that he would meet with several senior Republican Party officials, even President Trump, before cutting short his visit to the US.
US President's Special Envoy for Special Missions, Richard Grenell, wished Vučić a speedy recovery, after the Serbian leader abruptly cut short his visit.
In a post on X, Grenell also expressed regret that he was unable to meet with the Serbian leader.
But former Serbian diplomat Nebojsa Vujovic has given another version of Vucic's sudden "illness" in the US and his untimely return to Belgrade, saying that it was US President Donald Trump's boss who "banned him from entering the Mar-a-Lago complex in Florida."
"Trump is more interested in the individual game of chess with Putin (Zelensky has already 'buried' him), than Vučić, who sought to solve internal problems in Serbia through a photo with Trump. He wanted to soften the threat coming from Europe with that photo (or reception) in Florida and then go to Moscow. He tried to position himself between Trump and Putin, taking away Trump's exclusivity and position as the preferred leader for Europe ," Vujović said, Nova.rs reports.
The former diplomat points out that Vučić has eroded his position in both Washington and Moscow.
"With this action, he has harmed himself more in Europe than the students have harmed him. But the students have managed to incite him to behave irrationally and harm himself. They hit him on the nerves and gave him a 'compass' to move from one mistake to another. He demanded a quick confrontation with the academic community and the suppression of protests, but he is achieving the opposite. Even those who have supported him for their own interests – above all Brussels, Paris and Berlin – are now forced to tie their hands," Vujovic declared.
