Over 400,000 people protested across France on Saturday against rising living costs and education funding, putting new pressure on President Emmanuel Macron's government.

According to the French Interior Ministry, around 410,000 people participated in the protests across the country, of which 110,000 in Paris.

Meanwhile, organizers reported higher figures, claiming that the number of protesters reached nearly 800,000 across France and 250,000 in the capital.

The march in Paris began peacefully and the situation remained generally calm throughout the day.

However, at the end of the protest, near the Porte de Vincennes area, some protesters threw objects at the police, who responded by using tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowd.

Clashes also broke out in other cities across France as protesters tried to enter areas where gatherings were not authorized. Saturday's protest came a week after widespread riots and looting across the country.

French authorities deployed around 70,000 police and gendarmes, while according to international media reports, the number of people detained during the protests approached one thousand nationwide.

Belgium was also gripped by tensions. In Brussels, hundreds of young people protested against education reforms and police violence. During the clashes, barricades were erected and electric scooters were burned, while police intervened with tear gas. Authorities reported nine people were temporarily detained.

In Spain, thousands of citizens marched in Madrid demanding higher pensions and protection of the public system in the face of inflation. Unlike in France and Belgium, the protest in the Spanish capital took place without serious incidents.

Meanwhile, Portugal is also facing social unrest due to a housing crisis, rising rents and low wages. Mobilizations have taken place in Lisbon and Porto in recent days, while unions have warned of more protests.

From France to Belgium, Spain and Portugal, economic and social discontent is fueling mobilizations with diverse demands. Clashes in several cities have increased pressure on authorities, as protesters demand concrete measures to improve living conditions.
