Trump praises Syrian leader: Young, attractive and strong guy
United States President Donald Trump and Syrian counterpart Ahmed al-Sharaa

United States President Donald Trump has said that his brief meeting in Saudi Arabia with his Syrian counterpart, Ahmed al-Sharaa, went "wonderfully."

The White House chief of staff described Sharaa as a "young, attractive, strong guy, with a strong past, with a very strong past, a fighter," BBC television reports.

"He has a real chance to hold on. I spoke to President Erdogan, who is very friendly with him. He seems to have a real chance to do a good job. It's a broken country," the American president continued.

He said he thinks that Syria will at some point become part of the Abraham Accords to normalize relations with Israel.
