New tension in diplomatic relations between Paris and Ankara is caused by the statements of French President Emmanuel Macron from Algeria.

The French president denounced what he called massive manipulation against France by "political Islamists" in Africa. He even attacked Turkey for this, saying that "France was targeted by 'political Islamists' who are hostile to France".

Macron also said that "in Turkey, Russia and China there are networks of activation, neo-colonial and imperialist agendas against France" and added: "There is only one enemy for them and that is France".

Macron's statements provoked the harsh reaction of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, which responded with the phrase that "hostilities in Africa come from France's colonial past".
