A tower block in the heart of Moscow has been hit by a drone attack for the second time in 48 hours, raising panic in the heart of the Russian capital about the potential that Ukraine really has in this war.

The news about the explosion was given by the mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin.

"Several drones were downed overnight," he said, "but one hit the same tower in the Moskva City complex," which was also targeted on Sunday.

The glass facade of the building was damaged, but no injuries were reported.

The Russian defense ministry blamed Ukraine for the latest attack, as it did the day before, but Kiev continues to remain silent on such situations.

"Two more Ukrainian drones were shot down by anti-aircraft systems elsewhere in the Moscow region," the Russian defense ministry said, claiming they had thwarted a Ukrainian "terrorist attack".

As a result, Moscow's Vnukovo airport was briefly closed, according to Russian news agencies.

"Vnukovo was temporarily closed, suspending landings and departures of planes. Dozens of flights were diverted to other airports," Russian emergency services said, before reporting that normal air operations had returned.

Moscow has repeatedly accused Ukraine of carrying out drone attacks on its territory in recent months, including one on the Kremlin - President Vladimir Putin's official residence in the capital - in May.

Although Ukraine has not claimed responsibility for specific incidents, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that attacks on Russian territory are an "inevitable, natural and absolutely fair process".
