As of tomorrow, August 1, the government of Giorgia Meloni has decided that the Italian social security institution will stop providing social income to unemployed and low-income citizens.
This is a measure approved by the first government of Giuseppe Conte, in March 2019, with the aim of supporting the country's poorest citizens and corresponded to an average of 550 euros per month.
The official announcement was made over the weekend via an SMS message sent to thousands of mobile phones. This measure concerns families in which there are citizens who are considered capable of looking for a new job. But the decision caused discontent, especially in many regions of southern Italy with a high unemployment rate.
The government of Rome has approved a new measure, which it called "income from social inclusion" and according to what was decided, it does not exceed 6,000 euros per year.
At the same time, anyone who does not have the right to receive this assistance will be able to apply for a grant of 350 euros per month for a period of one year, provided that they attend vocational training courses at the same time.
