Why was Donald Trump forced to leave his phone on Air Force One for two days

One of the most difficult decisions that US President Donald Trump had to make during his two-day stay in Beijing was parting with his personal phone, as part of the strict cybersecurity measures put in place during his visit to China.

According to reports from the New York Post, Trump was instructed not to use any personal electronic devices during the visit, to avoid the risk of possible eavesdropping or attacks by hackers.

This move is considered particularly unusual for Trump, who is known for his constant use of his phone, both for communicating with associates and friends, and for frequent postings on the Truth Social platform.

A White House official confirmed that the US president would not use his personal phone during his entire stay in China. During the summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, activity on Trump's Truth Social account was noticeably reduced. According to US media, posts were published from Washington by his staff, who worked Beijing's schedule to support the delegation remotely.

However, Trump was not the only one subjected to this "digital isolation." US officials used so-called "burner phones," simple, temporary phones that offer more anonymity and security. They also used temporary email addresses to protect sensitive information during the visit.

The devices used had most of the basic applications and functions disabled, functioning as "clean" phones, with very little data stored, to minimize damage in the event of any cyber intrusion.

For years, the US State Department has warned American citizens traveling to China that there is no guaranteed privacy on Chinese phone or electronic networks. For this reason, many travelers choose to take devices with them without personal data.

Meanwhile, the personal devices of White House staff were stored aboard the presidential plane Air Force One inside special enclosures that block GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and RFID signals, preventing any possible remote attacks.
