Chinese President Xi Jinping has accompanied US President Donald Trump on a special tour of Zhongnanhai, the high-security compound where China's top leaders live and work. The visit is seen as the highlight of Trump's final day in Beijing before his return to the White House.
After the walk, the two leaders held a joint press conference, where Trump stated that their talks focused on trade, Iran and "many other issues."
"We decided things that others couldn't. We don't want Iran to have nuclear weapons and we want the strait to remain open," Trump said, referring to tensions in the Middle East and the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz.
On the other hand, Xi said that a "new bilateral relationship" has been established between the two countries.
A few hours earlier, in an interview with Fox News, Trump revealed that Xi had promised not to supply Iran with military equipment, although China will continue to buy Iranian oil.
Trump also stated that China has agreed to buy American oil and about 200 Boeing aircraft, describing this as an important step in economic relations between the two countries.
“Trade talks went better than last time,” Trump said, adding that the American businessmen who accompanied him to Beijing were there to “make deals” and “secure jobs.”
The US president also mentioned Xi’s possible visit to the US on September 24, stressing that he expects the Chinese leader to be as impressed by America as he was by China during this visit.
