An unusual case has happened with the Indonesian airline 'Baltik Air', where during a flight from Southeast Sulawesi to Jakarta, two pilots of the plane fell asleep for 28 minutes.
Despite some mishaps during the journey, the aircraft, all 153 passengers and 4 stewards completed the journey without any damage.
After the incident, the two pilots were temporarily suspended from work until the end of the investigation. The BBC reports that the chief pilot had asked his assistant to take control of the plane for half an hour, as he felt tired. This request was accepted by the co-pilot, but after a few minutes he too fell asleep. According to the report, he had been helping his wife take care of their one-month-old twin babies.
Jakarta air traffic control tried to contact the Batik Air A320 cabin after their last recorded transmission, but received no response.
That radio silence lasted 28 minutes until the lead pilot woke up and realized that his co-pilot had also fallen asleep. He also discovered that the plane had briefly veered off course.
The pilots then responded to calls from Jakarta and landed the plane safely.
Pre-flight medical tests deemed the men fit to fly. Their blood pressure and heart rate were normal and alcohol tests came back negative.
Regarding the case, investigations have been started by the authorities to reveal the truth.
